G’day Friends,
Welcome to Kookaburra Sings.
A little about me. Hi my name’s Tim, I’m an Australian writer. Inspired by the hollows, the gum trees and the Southern Ocean I grew up on. I became a teacher, before asking the question is this what I want to do with my life. In my late 20’s I bought a one-way ticket to South America to explore, adventure and undertake a deeper exploration into self-discovery. Two years on I’m living in Vancouver Island, in Canada—having the adventure of a lifetime.
I currently work in an independent book store, I run a lot and am always chasing an adventure.
The title of this Newsletter is - Kookaburra Sings. I picked the name because In Aboriginal lore, the kookaburra’s laugh at dawn wakes the sky people to light the sun, signalling the start of a new day.
My essays are introspective and reflective. I write to discover how I feel and see. Writing emotive essays about life, music, nature, culture and disability. Promise I won’t sing.
I would ideally like these essays to come across as almost a journal entry — a conversation between friends over a cuppa. At times becoming a little vulnerable and real.
Why you should read it -
‘Tim, I just wanted to say ur newsletter was so good’ — Friend.
‘Oh my goodness — You are AMAZING’ — My Mum.
I’ve been gifted a lot from your writing and your online presence in general. Thanks for doing you, and sharing your glimmers with me. —Friend who made me cry.
This is a space for me to share and for you to feel you can do the same. A vulnerable place, a house that will over the decades to come become a home.
